What Are Snack Sticks?

Snack sticks are small portions of venison packaged for easy distribution and do not require refrigeration until opened.

Mission

Provide venison snack sticks for school-age children across Arkansas.

Goal

To provide a backpack snack to school-age children who may otherwise not have access to nutritional food over the weekend.

Why

• More than 200,000 children in Arkansas are at risk of hunger and not getting the food they need to lead healthy lives.
• Child food insecurity rate in Arkansas is 23.6% — 3rd worst in the nation.
• Whitetail deer are a renewable resource high in protein and low in fat which provides essential building blocks for strong muscles.

How It Works

1. Hunter harvests and donates a deer to a participating AHFH processor.
2. Deer is deboned and processed into snack sticks.
3. Snack sticks are distributed to elementary schools throughout Arkansas for their weekend backpack programs.
4. Kids enjoy these small portions of venison which are free of artificial hormones and antibiotics.
